In 2010 the marathon course was revised.  The last 6 plus miles are now downhill and relatively free from dips. Visit our marathon course page or marathon map pages for details about the marathon course.

1/2 Marathon, 10K, 8K & 2-Mile Courses

2010 Lost Dutchman Half Marathon Start

The Half Marathon begins and ends in Prospector Park, and is an out-and-back over the last 6.55 miles of the Marathon course. The course is changed for the 2010 event to be flatter and faster. We have a designated lane for runners going toward the turnaround and a return lane when you are headed for the finish line to avoid conflict with oncoming runners and walkers. You will notice a gradual incline as you run toward Superstition Mountain and an equivalent decline on the way back. There are no significant hills. The course is paved, but there are significant stretches of freshly graded shoulder if you prefer to run on dirt.  The half marathon course is certified (AZ10015TLB ) through 2020.

There will be mile markers on the race course.

The 10K begins and ends in Prospector Park, and is an out-and-back over the last 3.1 miles of the Marathon course. The course is all on pavement, with broad freshly graded shoulders much of the way if you prefer to run on dirt. The route is relatively flat. The course includes a slight incline going out and decline coming back to the finish line. There is no time limit for the 10K, HOWEVER, walkers and slow runners should be aware of faster half marathoners approaching from behind and sharing the return lane; please be courteous.

There will be mile markers on the race course.

The 8K is a Desert Trail Run starting and ending in Prospector Park. The course is mostly on dirt trail in the northern and eastern portions of the park that is undeveloped. The only elevation changes are where the course crosses dry washes, otherwise the course is flat. It should be considered relatively easy as trail courses go. There is no time limit for the 8K.

The 2-Mile Family Fun/Run Walk starts and ends in Prospector Park, and loops out onto Idaho Road.

Aid Stations:

Half Marathon and 10K Aid Stations: For the 10K and Half Marathon courses there are aid stations every mile with water at every aid station .  There are port-a-jons near every aid station.

8K Aid Stations: For the 8K trail race there is one aid station that all runners will pass twice. There are port-a-jons near every aid station.

Aid stations are staffed by our tremendous volunteers without whom our event could not happen. Please thank them along the way.

Courtesy Clothing Drop: There will be clothing bag drop zone in Prospector Park for the convenience of the runners not wishing to return to their cars.
